We Won’t Call Off Strike, College of Education Lecturers Insist

The latest update on the Colleges of Education strike is that the Lecturers under the auspices of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) in the South-South have resolved to continue with their ongoing strike.

COEASU Strike

The COEASU Zonal Secretary, Mr. ThankGod Ogbomah, noted that there would be no suspension of the strike until the Federal Government meets their demand.

The national body of union on December 31, 2013 had embarked on strike to demand the implementation of the 2010 Federal Government-COEASU agreement and the proper funding of the sector.

The union’s other demands include the repair of dilapidated infrastructure in the colleges, payment of what they call peculiar academic allowances and the implementation of migration of lower cadre of academic staff.

Ogbomah said, “The National Officers Council of COEASU has been in negotiation with the Federal Government for over six months on these issues and came to the conclusion that the government is only paying lip service to the demands of our great union.

“The only language the government understands is strike, and so we have resolved to stand by our national officers council until the desired result is achieved.”

That is the latest on the 2013 Colleges of Education strike as reported by PUNCH Newspaper.
