‘UNILAG Set For A New Session’

The University of Lagos has said it is set for a new session. Speaking with our correspondent in a telephone interview, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Olukayode Amund, said there had been a flurry of activities on the campus, in preparation for the new session.

He said, “Students are already on the ground, coming to register. For example, freshers (first-year students) have been in the university since last year. Those that have been given admission have finished their registration. Older students have also been registering since the 17th of this month (February), and lectures will resume on the 3rd of March (tomorrow). We are fully prepared.”

Amund also told SUNDAY PUNCH that the process for the allocation of accommodation to students was almost completed.

“The same week of resuming lectures, electronic allocation of bed spaces will take place. We have already done so for final-year students. The freshers and all the other categories of students, as from Monday, will just go online to log in and take their bed spaces. So, they are fully prepared,” he explained.

He added that staff and students had got over the strike, and they were optimistic, despite the effects of the strike on the academic calendar.

He added, “Indeed, the strike has affected the calendar. But, we have planned it in such a way that we are back on track in the next two or three years. That is why the session is starting in March.

“It will be difficult to recover in just one year, except you want to do one session in three months, and a session is supposed to last for nine months. It is important that we sacrifice in order for us to be able to meet up over time.” (PUNCH)
