UNIABUJA Students To Be Moved To Other Universities To Complete Degree
Engineering students of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) who have been protesting for several months over non-accreditation of their programme would be relocated to other universities to complete their studies within the next few months.
Already, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has met with prospective universities that could re-absorb these Engineering students who have refused to let other students of the university write their examinations, insisting their faculty must gain accreditation first.
But federal government said yesterday it wanted to meet with the parents and affected students for their stamp of approval on the decision.
Minister of education Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i while meeting with a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by the President Yinka Gbadebo said the university could secure accreditation for the programme in the “next few months” but the “the problem is the students who are in the university now.”
“We are looking at the possibility if we cannot absorb them in the system because they have reached certain level of their academic career, we are looking at the possibility of taking them to our various universities so they can graduate safely and we can put a stop to this problem,” he said.
