Taraba Governor Orders Payment Of 3 Years Scholarship Allowances To Students
The Acting Gov of Taraba, Alhaji Garba Umar, on Wednesday ordered the immediate payment of the arrears of scholarship allowances to students of the state in various institutions of higher learning.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ate Kundu, stated this at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Jalingo.
Kundu said the acting governor had expressed concern that the students’ allowances had not been paid for nearly three years.
Kundu said the commissioner for education had been directed to come up with the total number of the beneficiaries of the arrears and submit same to government immediately.
“The list is expected to capture all students of Taraba origin who are in universities both at home and abroad so that funds for payment will be made available,” he said.
Kundu said members of the council also expressed displeasure over the low internally generated revenue profile of the state, adding that three quarter of its budget was funded by statutory allocation.
The commissioner, however, said a committee earlier set up by the state government to enhance revenue generation had submitted its report, stressing that the report would be studied for implementation.
Meanwhile, Kundu said that the acting governor had also approved a minor cabinet changes.
With the new changes, he said, the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Isa Musa, was moved to the Ministry of Agriculture while the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Danfulani Kwetaka, was moved to the Ministry of Works as commissioner. (NAN)
