Tim Adeleye Foundation for Africa (TAFA) Essay Competition for 2018 is open and accepting applications/entries from interested and eligible persons. The details of the Tim Adeleye Foundation for Africa, how to apply and prizes are contained in this post.
The essay competition has been divided into three (3) categories: Secondary School category, Undergraduate category and Postgraduate category. Each has its own prize money.
About Tim Adeleye Foundation for Africa Essay Competition
The key purpose of this essay competition is to engage our youths in a thought-leadership activity that would allow them contribute towards implementation of strategies that will make Nigeria a better place, giving them a platform for their ideas to be expressed and heard by the nation.
In the past, several solutions to end poverty have been proposed by citizens of the nation, belonging to different strata of society. This competition serves as a platform for young Nigerians to share fresh ideas and innovative implementation on the sustainable ways to end poverty in Nigeria, highlighting the role of business in making this possible.

2018 TAFA Essay Topics For Each Category
Secondary School:
If you were President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for one week, what sustainable measures will you put in place to reduce poverty?
Undergraduate Category:
Recently, Nigeria trumped India to be the world poverty capital. In light of this trend, what can Nigeria do to redeem its image as the giant of Africa? Highlighting the power of business, what pragmatic steps can you recommend to salvage Nigeria from the scourge of Poverty in line with the SDG goal to end poverty by 2030?
Post-Graduate Category:
If you are given an opportunity to be a special adviser to the Presidency on Poverty alleviation, what are the indigenous strategies you would adopt, highlighting the role of business in eradicating poverty in line with the SDG goal to end poverty by 2030? Analyse how you would restore Nigeria’s image as a prosperous Nation instead of the World Poverty Capital?
Who Can Enter The Essay Contest?
To enter the Tim Adeleye Foundation for Africa 2018 Essay Competition, you must meet the following eligibility criteria (requirements):
SECONDARY SCHOOL:
- Must be a student of a Nigerian public or private school.
- Must not be more than 18 years old by July 6th, 2018.
- Essay content must be original and not an intellectual property belonging to someone else (must not be copied/plagiarised).
- Essay must not be more than 1000 words.
- Essay must be submitted before 11pm on July 31st, 2018

UNDERGRADUATE CATEGORY
- Must be a student of a Nigerian public or private university. (Students of all disciplines can join the competition).
- Must not be more than 28 years old by July 6th, 2018.
- Essay content must be original and not an intellectual property belonging to someone else (must not be copied/plagiarised).
- Essay must not be less than 1900 words and not more than 2500 words. (Charts and tables are accepted).
- Essay must be submitted before 11pm on July 31st, 2018

POST-GRADUATE CATEGORY
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree or HND from any Nigerian university. (Class of degree does not count).
- Must have graduated from university not earlier than 2015.
- Graduates with more than 2 years working experience are advised not to participate. (NYSC candidates are encouraged to participate).
- Must not be more than 30 years old by July 6th, 2018.
- Essay content must be original and not an intellectual property belonging to someone else (must not be copied/plagiarised).
- Essay must not be less than 2900 words and not more than 3500 words. (Charts and tables are accepted).
- Essay must be submitted before 11pm on July 31st, 2018.

SECONDARY SCHOOL
Winner: Scholarship worth One Hundred Thousand Naira Only (100,000 NGN) and Essay will be published in one of Nigeria’s newspaper.
1st Runner-up: A dinner and Mentorship session with Tim Adeleye, Chief Executive Officer, Optiweb Communications.
UNDERGRADUATE CATEGORY
Winner: Scholarship worth Two Hundred Thousand Naira Only (200,000 NGN) and Essay will be published in one of Nigeria’s newspaper.
1st Runner-up: A dinner and Mentorship session with Tim Adeleye, Chief Executive Officer, Optiweb Communications.
POST-GRADUATE CATEGORY
Winner: Intensive training program at the prestigious Lagos Business School (LBS) worth One Million Naira Only (1,000,000 NGN). Essay will be published in one of Nigeria’s newspaper.
Important Information To Contestants:
1. Participants are advised to familiarise themselves with the SDG goals with regard to this through leadership exercise.
2. Participants are advised to present their ideas in the following format:
- Introduction
- Share personal poverty experience since the time of recession and economic uncertainty in Nigeria
- Solution and Implementation.
3. Participants are advised to have STEM, ICT, Agriculture, BioEnergy, Fintech, Arts, Security; Entrepreneurship informed solutions. However, participants are free to propose solutions of their choice apart from the options listed above.
4. Participants must suggest a unique, realistic, achievable and result-bound implementation process.
Entry Submission Deadline
The closing date for submission of entries for the 2018 Tim Adeleye Foundation for Africa (TAFA) Essay Competition is 11pm on July 31st, 2018 for all categories.
