Students, There Is No Alternative To Strike – OAU ASUU Chair
ASUU Strike 2013 – ASUU Chairman, OAU Chapter, Prof. Adegbola Akinola, has made it clear to students who are complaining at home and accussing ASUU of considering their plight that there is no alternative to strike. Many students have argued that strike is not the best to resolve this issue but ASUU should dialogue with FG to resolve their issues.
In an interveiw with PunchNG’s MOTUNRAYO JOEL, Motunraayo asked;
But the students are saying that there should be other alternative apart from the strike.
He answers;
What other alternatives do we have? They should come out and suggest other alternatives to us. Before embarking on an indefinite strike, the union embarked on a warning strike. But when that didn’t yield any fruit, the union decided to go on a full strike, after which the Federal Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the union. The Federal Government should then implement the agreement which the MoU enforced. The union is seeking for a revitalisation of our education system, equipment, lecture hall, hostels, and workshops. The Federal Government has the money to lift the faces of our institutions. Sometimes, we wonder what the Federal Government is spending our money on. Education should take priority.
Do you think there is an alternative to the strike? Let’s see your opinion!
