Poisonous Fumes: Why We Can’t Reopen School Now — LASEPA Boss

Four days after 13 students of Ogba Junior Grammar School, Ogba, Ojodu Local Council Development Area, LCDA, were hospitalized after inhaling poisonous fumes, the school is still shut.

When Vanguard visited the school, there was no student in sight. Sources said that students who resumed earlier in the day were sent home by the school authority.

However, the 13  students affected by the deadly fumes are said to have  been discharged from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH. Ikeja and Ogba Shopping Arcade which was last Thursday shut for being the source of the poisonous fumes has since been reopened.

General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Ademola Shabi who spoke to our correspondent in an interview, said that the school would be reopened when the agency completes its investigation and certifies that the school is conducive for the students.

Shabi said: “We are yet to complete our investigation on the school. We will come out with the result before the end of this week.”

According to him: “At present, we discovered huge quantity of carbide behind the school and will be evacuating it tomorrow (today). Until we complete the evacuation of the carbides in the school, and by the time we certify that the school is conducive for the students, and then we will reopen the school.” Source: Vanguard Newspaper
