NUC Set To Open Portal For Ph.D Holders In Nigeria
The National Universities Commission will establish a portal for Ph.D holders in order to facilitate their engagement in the Nigerian university system, the Executive Secretary, Prof Julius Okojie, has said.
Okojie said an an interactive dinner with newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, said it was worrisome that Ph.D holders were unemployed when their services were needed in the universities.
According to him, many Ph.D holders visit his office looking for job, informing the need for a portal where their data would be uploaded for easy access to any university that may need their services.
“It is amazing seeing the number of Ph.D holders that come to my office and say they are looking for jobs.
“On the other hand, many universities are looking for Ph.D holders to employ. We will create a portal that will serve as a pool from which the universities can engage such people,” he added.
He said the nine newly approved private universities had been directed to institute a credible staff enrollment programme.
On the establishment of many of the private universities in Ogun State, he said they were all on merit, adding that several other factors might have informed the decision of the proprietors to site them in Ogun State.
“Ogun State has a good access from many states. Lagos does not have land anymore but it has a very huge population.
“Lagos is very close to Ogun and the proprietors look at the facilities in Lagos such as the international airport, seaport, and transportation among others,’’ Okojie said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that four of the nine new private universities are located in Ogun
