NNPC Quiz Competition for in the South East zone was won by Imo State. They emerged winners over Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi, who came 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.

NNPC South East Zonal Quiz Competition: Imo State Emerges Winner
The South East zonal finals of the 2014 Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) National School Quiz Competition was held in Umuahia, Abia State on Wednesday with Imo State emerging as the zonal winner with 60 points.
The second position was won by Anambra State with 50 points followed by Enugu State with 45 points. Ebonyi State and Abia State, the host, emerged fourth and fifth with 30 points and 25 points respectively.
Each of the fives states was represented by three students who won from their state competitions earlier.
The winner, Imo State, was represented by Adolalom Obinna Tony and Aputazie Ijeoma Sylvia both of Living Word Academy Secondary School Nkwerre and Okezie Emmanuel Tochukwu of Christ The King Grammar School Okigwe.
Declaring the completion open at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, the state Education Commissioner, Monica Philips, commended the NNPC for introducing and running the competition since fourteen years ago and describing the quiz competition as “ a rare grand philanthropic gesture extended to our growing generation”.
She urged the participants to contest keenly to win, saying it has become a tradition for Abia students to come tops in competitions.
The NNPC General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ohi Alegbe, said this 2014 competition was the thirteenth and that “ since it commenced, the competition has been characterised by very keen and healthy contest from participating states all borne out of the sincere desire and commitment of the participating students to do well” .
Represented by the NNPC Port Harcourt Area Public Affairs Manager, Sonny Odiete, the Group General Manager said annually, the student-contestants slug it out in core science subjects of English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, adding that by so doing , the students rivalry in the competition prepares them towards the rigors of their secondary school certificate examination as well as the challenges of tertiary education which the NNPC is proud to be part of this positive development.
He listed five aims/objectives of the competition as supporting the Federal Government campaigns towards uplifting education standards, stimulating the interest of the younger ones in the study of science subjects, creating an atmosphere of challenge within schools in order to improve teaching and learning process, sharing ideas and building a solid foundation for science development within Nigeria and promoting unity among the various youths of the country.
