NGScholars Scholarships 2024

Scholarship Objectives: The NGScholars Teacher Excellence Scholarship is established to support and encourage students pursuing education degrees in Colleges of Education and Teacher Training Institutes across Nigeria. The scholarship is designed to:

  • Enhance the quality of teacher education in Nigeria by motivating talented individuals who are passionate about becoming educators.
  • Empower future teachers who will serve in public primary and secondary schools, forming the foundation of education for young learners.
  • Elevate the standard of teacher training, ensuring that future teachers are well-equipped to provide high-quality education to the next generation.

Scholarship Value:

  • N100,000 per recipient
  • 5 scholarships awarded annually

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Applicants must be full-time students currently enrolled in a College of Education or a Teacher Training Institute in Nigeria.
  2. Applicants must be in their penultimate (second-to-last) or final year of study.
  3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent is required for eligibility.
  4. Applicants must demonstrate a passion for teaching, with a clear intention to work in public primary or secondary schools after graduation.
  5. Applicants must submit an essay (500 words) on the topic: “The Impact of Teacher Motivation on Student Success in Nigeria.”

Application Requirements:

  1. Completed scholarship application form (available on ngscholars.net).
  2. Academic transcripts from the applicant’s institution.
  3. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member or dean.
  4. Proof of enrollment (student ID, admission letter, etc.).
  5. A personal statement (500 words) discussing the applicant’s career goals, why they are passionate about teaching, and how they plan to impact education in Nigeria.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Recipients must use the scholarship funds solely for educational purposes, including tuition, books, and living expenses.
  2. Scholarship recipients are required to commit to teaching in public primary or secondary schools for at least two years post-graduation.
  3. The scholarship is non-renewable and will be disbursed as a one-time payment.
  4. Failure to meet the terms of the scholarship (e.g., not completing the teaching commitment) will result in the recipient being required to return the scholarship funds.
  5. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens.
  6. Essay must be original, plagiarism-free and not AI-written.

Selection Process:

  1. Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee appointed by NGScholars.
  2. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview or asked to submit additional materials.
  3. Final decisions will be based on academic performance, the quality of the personal statement, and the applicant’s commitment to teaching.

Application Timeline:

  • Application Opens: October 1, 2024
  • Application Deadline: December 31, 2024
  • Notification of Recipients: February 15, 2025
  • Disbursement of Funds: March 1, 2025
