NANS Seeks End To ASUP, COEASU Strike
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the federal government to reconcile with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) to end the prolonged industrial action by the unions.
A statement signed by the union’s Vice President (National Affairs), Ahmad Jibril, said the strike has not only stalled academic activities in the campuses, but unsettled students.
“We are calling on the federal government for immediate installment of the CONTISS N20.4 billion and N6 billion for ASUP and COEASU respectively to enable prompt re-opening of our institutions. We also appeal to ASUP and COEASU to shift ground by accepting part payment of these funds,” the statement said.
NANS also appealed to the Minister of Education and other relevant authorities to intervene and resolve the HND/BSc dichotomy issue.
