A consortium of Internet and communication technology infrastructure and service providers led by the Galaxy Backbone Ltd, Microsoft, HP and others have donated 22,500 laptops to secondary schools in Anambra State.
The Managing Director of the GalaxynBackbone, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, disclosed this at the inauguration of the state Secondary Schools Connectivity and Education Programme and presentation of cheques to its technology partners by Governor Peter Obi in Awka, on Thursday.
Ilukwe said the consortium was committed to collaborating with the state government to improve the quality of education in secondary schools in the state.
“In the 21st Century no qualitative education is possible without computerisation and Internet access,” Ilukwe said.
He said the state was the first in the country in 2010 to computerise and provide internet access to over 100 secondary schools.
He described the inauguration as an extension of the same initiative to cover all secondary schools numbering over 400, spread across the state.
