Meaning of JAMB in Nigerian Education
What is the meaning of JAMB in Nigeria education? JAMB means Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (it is an acronym). It is an entrance examination board for tertiary-level institutions in Nigeria.
In other words, JAMB conducts entrance examinations for prospective undergraduates seeking admission into Nigerian universities. This examination is called the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). It is a Computer-Based Test.
JAMB conducts entrance exams for Nigerian public and private monotechnics, polytechnics, and colleges (of educations, agriculture, etc.). This could be into first year (100 level) or Direct Entry (200 or 300 level) programmes.
Before a candidate can sit for JAMB UTME, he/she must have passed senior secondary school leaving exams conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WEC) or its equivalents – National Examination Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
