KWASU Convocation Ceremony 2024: Dates & Guidelines

The 12th Kwara State University – KWASU Convocation Ceremony will award first and postgraduate degrees and present prizes.

The main event is scheduled for Saturday, 14th December 2024, with a series of activities leading up to the ceremony.

This momentous occasion celebrates academic excellence, uniting graduates, faculty, and guests for events filled with knowledge, art, and sportsmanship.

Day 1: Tuesday, 10th December 2024

  • Vice Chancellor’s Press Briefing
    • Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, KWASU Campus, Malete
    • Time: 11:00 a.m.
  • Official Opening of Exhibition by University Units
    • Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, KWASU Campus, Malete
    • Time: Immediately after the press briefing
  • Football Match (Academic Staff vs Non-Teaching Staff)
    • Venue: University Stadium Complex, Malete
    • Time: 3:00 p.m.

Day 2: Thursday, 12th December 2024

  • Convocation Lecture
    • Lecturer: Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, OON, FAS
    • Topic: The Optimum Utilisation of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for the Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation
    • Venue: Mini Convocation Arena
    • Time: 11:00 a.m.
  • Convocation Play by the Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies
    • Title: Mojagbe by Ahmed Yerima
    • Venue: Ultra-Modern Performing Arts Building, KWASU Campus, Malete
    • Time: 11:00 a.m.

Day 3: Saturday, 14th December 2024

  • Main Convocation Ceremony for the Award of Degrees and Prizes
    • Venue: Ultra-Modern Performing Arts Building, KWASU Campus, Malete
    • Time: 10:00 a.m.
    • Guest Arrival: All guests must be seated by 9:00 a.m.

Important Information for Graduates

1. Confirm Your Name

    • All prospective 2023/2024 academic session graduates must verify their names on the KWASU website.

    2. Invitation Cards and Academic Gowns

      • Each graduate is allowed to invite one guest.
      • Invitation cards and academic gowns will be available for collection starting Thursday, 12th December 2024, immediately after the convocation lecture.

      3. Convocation Charges

        • Undergraduate Students: ₦35,000
          • Covers academic gown hire, certificate scroll, alumni fees, and certificates.
        • Postgraduate Students: ₦60,000
          • Includes the same provisions as undergraduate charges.
        • Certificate Collection: Certificate scrolls will be available for collection after the ceremony upon presenting proof of payment and a clearance certificate.

        4. Academic Procession Rehearsal

          • A rehearsal for the academic procession is scheduled for Friday, 13th December 2024, at 2:30 p.m.
          • Attendance is mandatory.

          5. Dress Code and Timing

            • Graduates must wear approved academic gowns and adhere to a formal dress code (full English wear or national attire).
            • Arrive on campus by 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, 14th December 2024, to join the procession starting at 8:00 a.m.
            • Late arrivals will not be allowed into the convocation arena.

            Return of Academic Gowns and Penalties

            • Hired gowns must be returned to the Faculty Officers by Friday, 20th December 2024.
            • A fine of ₦500 per day will be imposed for late returns after this deadline.
