He has also warned them against vandalising amenities provided for their comfort and learning purposes on campus.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, where over 3, 000 freshmen were administered their matriculation oath in Lokoja, Ajibero said the Polytechnic would not tolerate any situation where a group of students constitute themselves into a terrorist group to harass and intimidate other law abiding students.

He further warned that any student found wanting in this direction would be summarily expelled from the institution, as it would not fail to invoke appropriate sanctions on the culprits.

He advised those who may have any misgivings to channel their complaints through the Students Union Government (SUG) and the Directorate of Students’ Services of the school, stressing that on no account should they take laws into their hands.

“Remember that each of you has come from a home sponsored by your parents and guardians to acquire education. Management will therefore, not tolerate any situation whereby any student or group of students constitute themselves into a body that terrorises, harasses or intimidates other law abiding students for whatever reason.

“Anyone caught in such despicable acts will be summarily expelled because the polytechnic has zero tolerance for deviants or violence of any kind”

He added that examination malpractice, drug addiction, fighting, theft and cultism would be met with the most severe punishment, urging them to desist from such in their own interest and focus their energies on their studies.

On security within the campus, the rector said the management would leave no stone unturned in providing adequate security on campus even as he reiterated that security personnel and security committee were doing their job to ensure safety on campus.

He charged the students to be vigilant and report any threat or slight breach of the security to management.

Ajibero, who admitted that the institution was unable to admit more students due to the limited resources available to it, equally added that concerted efforts were being made to expand the existing facilities on a continuous basis in order to overcome the challenge.

He enjoined the fresh students to use the opportunity offered them by their admission to lay a solid foundation for their future by taking their studies seriously.

He promised that the school authority would continue to ensure that the needed amenities were in place to aid their studies and extra-curricular activities.  (Guardian)
