Kaduna Govt. Awards 129 Foreign Scholarships To Students
Kaduna State, has awarded 125 foreign scholarships to the state’s doctorate, masters and undergraduate medical students. The students would study medical sciences, engineering, applied and natural sciences in Malaysia, Ghana, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Egypt and Uganda. When the Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero,awarded foreign scholarships to 300 level medical students of Kaduna State University last year, he promised to award more foreign scholarships to postgraduate students of the state up to doctorate degree and had fulfilled the promise.
The 125 overseas scholarship beneficiaries received their award to study programmes of their choice abroad and they cut across various economic strata of the society.
Governor Yero said during the presentation that the 2014/2015 Overseas Scholarship Awards was aimed at improving the human capital to accelerate socio-economic development of the state.
He said the candidates were selected after a thorough screening exercise with all the 23 local government areas equitably represented. “There are 22 PhD, 77 MSc and 26 MBBS candidates selected to pursue their respective programmes in countries such as Malaysia, Ghana, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Egypt and Uganda.”
“The present administration has so far spent N1.4billion on internal and external scholarships since it assumed office on December 16, 2012 in addition to a recent approval for the disbursement of N119, 992,692.00 as scholarships to new students.”
He said after security, his administration prioritised education because of its significance to human capital development, which in turn was the basis of other developmental activities.
