Lecturers of the school under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics have been on strike since last December to protest against the alleged underfunding of the school, non-completion of their hazard allowances and the failure of the government to constitute a governing council for the institution.
At a briefing, the institution’s Student Union President, Iyiola Oladimeji, who sought the intervention of the governor, on Saturday, also urged the ASUP members to suspend the strike while it engages the government in a dialogue.
Oladimeji said, “ASUP of the Ibadan Polytechnic must at this point bring to the fore the interest of Nigerian students whom they have been claiming to be fighting for. They should do so by engaging the state government and the management in further dialogue, while returning to class without hesitation.”
