GSU Postgraduate Admission Form for 2024/2025

The Gombe State University – GSU postgraduate admission application is now available for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Below are the details about the available programs, eligibility criteria, and the GSU Postgraduate Admission Form 2024/2025 application process.

GSU Postgraduate Admission Available Programmes and Duration

Program Duration

  • M.A/M.Sc: Minimum of 2 academic sessions and a maximum of 3 academic sessions.
  • MPA/MBA: Minimum of 12 calendar months.
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): Minimum of 1 academic session and a maximum of 2 academic sessions.
  • PhD: Minimum of 3 academic sessions and a maximum of 5 academic sessions.

Eligibility Requirements for GSU Postgraduate Admission

General Requirements

  1. All candidates must have at least five (5) O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  2. Additional specific requirements apply based on the program.

Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting & Finance

  • Graduate of Gombe State University or any other recognized University
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) holders with a minimum of Lower Credit in relevant discipline
  • Holders of other professional qualifications which may be acceptable to the University Senate

MSc/PhD Accounting 


  • Graduate of Gombe State University in Accounting or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Honours Lower Division
  • Holders of relevant qualification, B.Ed Accounting with a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance from a recognized University
  • Candidates with Third Class Honours degree may be eligible to apply with a relevant Postgraduate Diploma with an Upper Credit iv. For PhD a good M.Sc in Accounting

Postgraduate Diploma in Management 


  • Graduate of Gombe State University or any other recognized University
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) holders with a minimum of Lower Credit in relevant discipline
  • Holders of other professional qualifications which may be acceptable to the University Senate

Master in Business Administration (MBA) 


  • A Bachelors degree holder in relevant discipline from Gombe State University or any recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division
  • Holders of Third Class Honours degree; Higher National Diploma (HND) with a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant discipline

M.Sc/ PhD Business Administration 


  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Gombe State University or any recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division
  • Applicant with a good Second Class tower Division in relevant field of study other than Business Administration but possess a Postgraduate Diploma or HND in any related field of Administration at Upper Credit level from Gombe State University or any recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Business Administration

Postgraduate Diploma in Development Economics (PGDDEC) 


  • Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification from a recognized University

M.Sc/ PhD Economics

  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Economics from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Economics Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Economics

M.A/PhD English Language 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M.A in English Language

MA/PhD English Literature 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English Literature from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English Literature Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M.A in English Literature

M.A/PhD History

  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in History from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in History Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M.A in History

M.A/ PhD Christian Religious Studies 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Christian Religious Studies from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Christian Religious Studies Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good MA in Christian Religious Studies

MA/ PhD Islamic Religious Studies 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Islamic Religious Studies from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Islamic Religious Studies Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good MA in Islamic Religious Studies

M.Sc/ PhD International Relations 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in International Relations or Political Science from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in any related field from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M Sc in International Relations

MSc/PhD Peace and Conflict Studies 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Peace and Conflict Studies or Political Science from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in related field from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M Sc in Peace and Conflict Studies

M.Sc/ PhD Political Science 


  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class lower Division Honours degree in Political Science from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Political Science Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered

Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration (PGDPA) 


  • Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification from a recognized University

Master of Public Administration (MPA)

  • A degree in Public Administration from Gombe State University or any recognized University with minimum of Second nags Lower Division
  • Applicant with Bachelors degree, HND with a Postgraduate Diploma at Credit Level

M.Sc/ PhD Public Administration

  • Applicant should possess a degree in Public Administration, Political Science and International Relation from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second nags Lower Division
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Public Administration

M.Sc/ PhD Sociology

  • Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Sociology from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Sociology Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Sociology

Postgraduate Diploma in Biochemistry (PGDBC) 


  • The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Biochemistry, Biochemistry Education, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or a Pass at Credit Level at HND in Science Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University

M.Sc/ PhD Biochemistry 


  • Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Biochemistry from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree
  • Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Biochemistry or HND and PGD in Biochemistry may also be considered

M.Sc/ PhD Environmental Biology 


  • Applicant should possess a minimum of Second nags Lower degree in Biology or any related field from Gombe State University or any other recognized University
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Environmental Biology

M.Sc/ Ph D Applied Parasitology & Entomology 


  • Candidate should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree in Zoology, or related field from Gombe State University or any recognized University

M.Sc/ Ph D Hydrobiology & Fisheries

  • Applicant should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree in Biology, or related field from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Hydrobiology & Fisheries

M.Sc/ PhD Botany (Ecology)

  • Candidate should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree in Botany, or related field from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Botany

M.Sc/ PhD Botany (Plant Physiology) 


  • Candidate should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree in Botany, or related field from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Botany

Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry 


  • The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Chemistry, Chemistry Education, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or a Pass at Credit Level at HND in Science Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University

M.Sc/ PhD Organic/Inorganic Chemistry

  • Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree
  • Candidates with good Second Class Honours B.Sc (Ed) Chemistry may be considered but would be required to lake Undergraduate Courses they may be deficient
  • Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Chemistry or B.Sc (Ed) Chemistry or HND and PGD in Chemistry may also be considered
  • For PhD a good MSc in Organic or Inorganic Chemistry

Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS) 


  • The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Education, or a Pass at Credit Level at HND, and any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University

M.Sc/ PhD Computer Science

  • Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree
  • Candidates with good Second Class Honours B.Sc (Ed) Computer Science may be considered but would be required to take Undergraduate Courses they may be deficient
  • Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Computer Science or B.Sc (Ed) Computer Science or HND and PGD in Computer Science may also be considered
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Computer Science

Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (PGDEM) 


  • The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Geography or a Pass at Credit Level at HND in any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University

Master in Environmental Management (MEM) 


  • A degree in Geography from Gombe State University or any recognized University with minimum of Second Class Lower Division ii. Applicant with Bachelors degree in related field, HND with a Postgraduate Diploma at Credit Level
  • Applicant with a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant field may be considered

M.Sc/PhD Geography 


  • Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Geography from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree
  • Candidates with good Second Class Honours B.Sc (Ed) Geography may be considered but would be required to take Undergraduate Courses they may be deficient
  • Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Geography or B.Sc (Ed) Geography or HND and PGD in Geography may also be considered iv. For PhD a good M.Sc in Geography

MSc/PhD Microbiology

  • Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Microbiology from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree
  • Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Geography or B.Sc (Ed) Microbiology or HND and PGD in Microbiology may also be considered
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Microbiology

M.Sc/ PhD Physics

  • Candidate should posse a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree in Physics or good B.Sc (Ed) Physics with Second Class Lower Division from Gombe State University or any recognized University
  • For PhD a good M.Sc in Physics

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) 


  • To be considered for admission all prospective candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor degree or HND Upper Credit in their Teaching subject

M.Ed/PhD Educational Psychology 


  • Applicants with Bachelors Degree Honours in Education obtained at not less than Second Class Lower Division from Gombe State University or any other recognized University
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) holder may be considered provided that such applicants possess Postgraduate Diploma in Education obtained at not less than credit level
  • For PhD a good M Ed in Psychology

M.Ed/ PhD Guidance & Counseling

  • Applicants with Bachelors Degree in Education obtained at not less than Second Class Lower Division from Gombe State University or any other recognized University
  • Candidates with a Bachelor degree plus PGDE may be considered
  • Applicants with a Third Class Honours degree in Education with a minimum of Five years Teaching Experience
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) holders may be considered provided that such applicant posses Postgraduate Diploma in Education obtained at not less than credit level
  • For PhD a good M.Ed in Guidance and Counseling

M.Ed/ PhD Science Education

  • Possession of a Bachelor Honours Degree (B.Sc (Ed.), B.Ed or equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography and Integrated Science, obtained at not less than Second Class Lower Division from Gombe State University or any other recognized University.
  • Possession of a Bachelor Honours Degree (B.Sc or equivalent) in relevant science disciplines provided that the degree is obtained at not less than Second Class Lower Division from Gombe State University or any other recognized University. In addition, candidates must possess PGDE at not less than credit level obtained from Gombe State University or any other recognized Institution.
  • HND Holders in relevant fields and not below credit level may be considered, provided that such applicants possess PGDE, obtained at not less than credit level from Gombe State University or any other recognized Institution.
  • Applicant with Third Class B.Sc (Ed), B.Ed and B.Sc Honours Degree or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Physic, Geography and Integrated Science and possess PGDE not below credit level from Gombe State University or any other recognized Institution, may be considered, provided that such candidates have acquired not less than five (5) years post qualification experience
  • For PhD a good M.Ed in Science Education
