FUNAAB Governing Council And VC Clash Over Administrative Style
A crisis of confidence is brewing between the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Professor Olusola Oyewole and the members of the governing council of the institution, led by a former Works Minister, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe.
The crisis, Vanguard learnt, yesterday, was not unconnected with the management style of the Vice Chancellor, which the members and indeed the Chairman of Council felt was “inconsistent with modern liberal practice of inclusive administration.”
Sources close to the Chairman of council obliged that Ogunlewe, at an interactive session with journalists at his Ogudu residence accused the VC of witch-hunting staff of the institution, who have had cause to serve past Vice Chancellors by making staff deployment and re- deployment “inconsistent with the skills and experience of such staff to the detriment of the institution.
“Much as our mandate does not allow us to interfere in the day to day affairs of the university, it is our responsibility to speak out when things are going awry in a way that the over all image of the institution could be negatively affected.
“A good number of decisions that do not tally with the modern way of administering a university have crept their ways into the university, resulting in losing most of the best hands of the institution to malicious postings and losing the university’s external friends in some painful cases,” Ogunlewe said.
