FIFTY FOUR Pregnant Girls Uncovered In Lagos Public Schools

Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth as well as Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru stated the school social work section of his ministry had been going round schools to check overdue acts of pupils in schools, which are harmful to learning among students of primary as well as secondary schools in the State.
‘Their work is that of discovering, managing as well as adjusting bad behaviour between students as a result of negative influence from peer group, modifying the attitudinal attitudes of delinquent students in schools as well as offering counselling services to students from dysfunctional families.
‘The School Social Employees have been working in cooperation with the School Guidance as well as Counsellors to counsel pupils and also reform those in require of correction. Some of these instances were referred to Family Courts as well as the affected pupils were placed on supervision to allow them settle down both at home as well as in school.
‘In the last one year, 378 schools were visited and also a total of 2,601 students were counselled separately as well as in groups, while 567 students were placed on supervision,’ he revealed.
Dr Badru uncovered that an investigation into the claimed sexual harassment of a girl-child by her guardian, a Naval Officer was also carried out, noticing that she was temporarily sheltered at the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi-Araba till when she was released as well as got re-united with her biological parents in Bayelsa State.
