Edo Teachers’ Assessment Test is Proper — JRC:
THE Justice Research Center, a non-governmental organisation, said yesterday that Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State met the recommendations of the International Labour Organisation and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, with the calibre of professors government assembled to conduct the assessment test for teachers in the state scheduled for this weekend.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Mr. Donald Inwalomhe, the group admonished the teachers to participate in the exercise, saying that the governor complied with relevant laws as regards teaching practices, when setting up the committee that will conduct the test.
The statement said that according to UNESCO and ILO recommendations, “Where any kind of direct assessment of the teacher’s work is required, such assessment should be objective and made known to the teacher. “In the case of Edo State, he said, the six Professors of Education appointed by Oshiomhole to conduct the competency test complied with UNESCO and ILO recommendations on teachers’ competency test.
“The professors are from Faculty of Education, University of Benin. They are members of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and they are external assessors to Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. The professors will participate in the development of new courses, textbooks and teaching aids in line with UNESCO recommendations. The law guiding Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria says graduates from Colleges of Education, Institutes of Education, National Teachers Institute and Faculties of Education, are automatic members of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.” (Vanguard)
