BUK To Start Chemical, Petroleum Engineering From 2013/2014 Session
Bayero University Kano (BUK) says the institution will run degree programme in Chemical and Petroleum engineering from the next academic session.
The Vice Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, made the disclosure at the national convention of the Alumni Association of the university in Kano on Saturday.
He said the university would start degree programmes in Communication Engineering, Palm oil Engineering, Information Technology, Fisheries, Forestry, Food Science and Technology by the next academic session.
“All these are new degree programmes which the Senate of the university have already approved,’’ he said.
According to him, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the university are currently working for the commencement of the new degree programmes by next session.
He said the university would also commenced 13 new degree programmes under its Distance Learning Programme in 2014.
He expressed the hope that the new leadership of the alumni would complement the efforts of the university management toward lifting the institution to greater heights.
Earlier, Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger, called for the immediate resolution of the lingering Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike to enable students to return to their campuses.
“We must do everything possible to end the lingering ASUU strike. We hope and pray that by the time the issue is resolved, it will be the last strike in the country,’’ Aliyu said.
In the election, Muhammad Usman, was elected president, while Hajiya Binta Rabiu and Dr Nazifi Darma, were elected first Vice President and second Vice President, respectively.
Others are Prof. Abu Mohammad, Secretary-General, while Rilwanu Bello and Habila Ibrahim were first Assistant Secretary and second Assistant Secretary, respectively.
The other include Dr Sadiya Daura, Financial Secretary; Halima Dangiwa, Treasurer; Abubakar Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer; Aminu Kurawa, Social Welfare Officer; and Mika Anache, Legal Adviser.
