Bowen University Signs MoU With UK’s Ahead Strategies
The management of the Bowen University, Iwo in Osun State has signed a memorandum of understanding with a United Kingdom-based group, Ahead Strategies. The initiative will prepare final year students of the university on vocational skills and job interviews.
The university Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Matthews Ojo, and a representative of AS, Mr. Benjamin, Taiwo, signed the pact in Iwo on Monday.
The VC said the programme would help to equip students to become skillful in some vocations.
According to him, the training will also inculcate in the students the entrepreneurial skills to be job creators rather than job seekers.
Ojo, who said the MoU would last for three years, added that the university had signed another pact with a Polish university.
Ojo said, “Just last week Bowen University also signed a MoU with a university in Poland. This will offer our graduates in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences the opportunities to earn additional degree after finishing their degree here.
“This MoU with Ahead Strategies, UK is a further step to make our students to be capable of being employed anywhere in the world.
“The programme is free for all graduating students who are ready to participate because the school management has taken care of all what will be needed.”
The BU Head of Skills and Entrepreneurial Section, Prof. Erlinda Adedayo, said the authorities were concerned with the problem of graduate unemployment in the country.
She said, “Why we find other organisations such as Ahead Strategies, UK, which could also collaborate with us, is that we should be able to enforce the employability of our graduates.
“The National Universities Commission is mandating universities to teach students entrepreneurial skills in order to solve unemployment in our society and that is one of the reasons the university is engaging in this programme. (Via PunchNG)
