ASUU Against Private Institutions’ Funding by Govt
ASUU, NASU, NAAT and SSANU are all against funding of Private Institutions’ by the Government. In the communiqué, signed by the Presidents of ASUU, Dr Nasiru Fagge, Mrs Ladi Iliya of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), Alhaji Sani Suleiman of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Mr Samson Ugwoke of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), they warned against the use of public funds such as TETFund, to finance private educational institutions in the country.

The communiqué also states, “Education is a public good and should not be left in the hands of private individuals who are driven solely by profit motive. On no account should public funds, such as TETFund, PTDF, among others, be used to fund private educational institutions and associated enterprises, the communiqué stated.”
The communiqué also urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the education sector and stressed the need for urgent and radical action to address it. [Excerpts: Daily Trust]
