ACEONDO Leadership Confusions Ends As Provost Assumes Post
The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has resumed duty as the head of the institution, thus confirming that the status of the institution is no more that of a university. This is coming after days of confusion as to who should take the mantle of leadership following the reversal of the institution to the college of of education status.
It was gathered that Prof. Richard King, who was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution when it was upgraded to a university in May 2015 by the administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was said to have packed all his belongings and left the institution at the weekend, after receiving information that the institution has been eventually reversed to college of education.
Ogen, however, had a challenging time on Monday, as students of the institution yet to be mobilised for the National Youth Service Corps protested against the delay in the exercise.
His first assignment was to appeal to the protesting students who gathered at the gate of the institution, singing solidarity songs and carrying placards with various inscriptions to express their plight. He assured the agitators that an urgent step would be taken to solve the problem.
Speaking on the matter, one of the protesters, who gave his name as Ekejiuba Kingsley, said the action was embarked upon in order to express displeasure over their non-mobilisation for the NYSC programme six months after they had expected to do so.
According to him, students of the college who graduated during the 2012/2013 academic session, have remained at home, while their counterparts in other institutions of higher learning have completed their programme.
