Abia State Poly Student Killed By Unknown Gunmen

Abia State Polytechnic Student Killed By Unknown Gunmen — Fear has gripped the residents of Umungasi in Aba, Abia State, after the shooting of a student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, by gunmen.

The student, whose name could not be ascertained as at press time was said to be a native of Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

This is coming barely two months after a worker of the polytechnic from Umungasi, Umuahia North Local Government was murdered near his father’s house within the city.

Daily Sun learnt that the student was returning from school on the fateful day and on reaching Immaculate Avenue, off Aba-Owerri Road, just few metres away from the polytechnic, he was accosted by a group of boys, who exchanged words with him (student).

The assailants were said to have fled from the scene unchallenged immediately after committing the dastardly act. The motive of the hoodlums could not be ascertained but there were beliefs in some quarters that the assassination could be the handiwork of cultists.

The student was said to have been immediately rushed to the Abia State Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba by some good Nigerians where he was confirmed dead and the body, deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident, adding that efforts were in place to make sure that the culprits were brought to book.
