NUC Directs Bowen University To Start Postgraduate Programmes
The Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, on Tuesday in Abuja, directed Bowen University, Iwo (BUI) in Osun State to start postgraduate programmes.
Okojie gave the directive when the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Matthew Ojo, paid him a familiarisation visit.
According to him, Bowen University has come of age to commence postgraduate programmes.
He said: “The commission has a policy that a university can only begin post graduate programmes one year after it has graduated its first set of students from the same programme.’’
The NUC boss added that the Nigerian University System (NUS) could still be rated high in academics, noting that the job of a vice chancellor was a prestigious one.
He, therefore, urged the vice chancellor to be anticipatory, especially in staff welfare and advised him to be firm and fair to earn the respect of the staff of the institution.
Responding, Ojo gave the assurance that Bowen University would continue to comply with the regulations and guidelines of the NUC.
He pledged that the university would also continue to implement government policies toward providing quality university education to Nigerians as he called for NUC’s continued support.
