BREAKING! ATBU Closes School Over Flood Incident
The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, ATBU, have announced the immediate close of school over the flood incident that occurred on Monday, 5th August, 2019 which led to the death of several students within the campus.
The victims who were on their way back to the hostel when the bridge that links one of the hostels and another building containing lecture rooms, collapsed during a heavy downpour.
The incident has led to a protest by students of the University blaming the bridge collapse on negligence by the school authorities.
The exact number of casualties is unknown as some sources within the school said between two and four students were swept off by the flood.
In light of this, the management issued a release as below;
NOTICE OF BREAK
Following the unfortunate incident (a flood disaster) of Monday 5° August 2019, the Senate on a emergency meeting held on Tuesday 6. August, 2019 approved a break with effect from Tuesday 6th August to 18th August 2019. All students are therefore required to vacate the Campuses with immediate effect from today 6th August 2019. It should be noted that academic activities resume with effect from Monday 19th August 2019.
The Vice Chancellor, on behalf of Senate commiserates with parents, SUG, Students and the University Community over the sad event and prays that the Almighty God will protect the University from any unforeseen circumstances.
