Will ASUU Join Ongoing NLC Strike? [See Answers]
Will ASUU be joining the ongoing NLC strike? This is the question that tops the mind of students of Nigerian Universities. They want to know if the Academic Staff Union of Universities will join the September 2018 NLC strike.
If ASUU should join the industrial action embarked upon by Nigeria Labour Congress, universities in the country will shut down. Academic activities will be suspended pending the time the strike is called off. Many Nigerian students apparently would not like this to happen.
Is ASUU Going To Join NLC Strike?
To answer the questions, ASUU will consult with its leadership.
According to news available via PunchNG, The Academic Staff Union of Universities said it would consult with its leadership and trustees before joining the strike.
The ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Wednesday that he could not decide without an approval from the ASUU executives and trustees.
Ogunyemi said, “We are part of the NLC. We are an affiliate of the NLC. But we are waiting for the final decision and we are consulting. I am also consulting with the ASUU leadership.”
But the Owerri Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Prof Uzo Onyebinama, during a press conference at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, on Wednesday said the union might join the strike.
So, will ASUU be part of the Nigeria Labour Congress strike? We have to wait.
Lastly, we promise to keep you updated on the NLC Strike!!!
