Post UTME 2013 vs ASUU Strike 2013 – The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) chapter, says it boycotted the university’s 2-day post-UTME screening as a result of its on-going nationwide strike.

Chairman of the union in UNN, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Abada, who spoke to journalists on Friday, said that the strike prohibited lecturers from involving in any academic activity.

“Lecturers of UNN are not participating in the university’s 2013 post-UTME screening because of ASUU nationwide strike, which is total. Any lecturer that participates in the screening exam will be punished for anti-ASUU activity”, he said.

According to Abada, teaching and supervision of examinations as well as attending senate, board, faculty or departmental meetings were not allowed while the strike lasted.

“The strike is total and any ASUU member found disobeying it will be punished appropriately. Our monitoring committee is watching and will report erring lecturers to ASUU for necessary action”, he added.

When contracted for comments, Mr. Gabriel Ndu, the communication secretary to the UNN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bartho Okolo, said that the screening had been going on unhindered.

“The screening is moving as expected and believing God, it will end very well. In spite of the rain on Thursday, the afternoon session of the exam ended smoothly”, he said.

Ndu said he was not a member of ASUU and as such was not in a position to give reason why the union was not participating in the screening.

Efforts to get comment from the chairman of UNN 2013 Post-UTME Screening Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics of the university, Prof Polycarp Chigbu, proved abortive as he could not pick several calls put across to him.
