Low Participation of Fathers in PTA Activities a Source of Worry For School Owners
Proprietress/ Executive Director, Mind Builders School, Lagos, Mrs. Bolajoko Falore, has urged fathers to take interest in Parents Teachers Association activities of schools of their children and wards.
Falore said the participation of fathers in PTA meetings in many schools in the country had been worsening over the years adding that the attendance in such an important meeting should not be entirely made an exclusive responsibility of mothers.
She spoke at the maiden edition of the school’s Fathers’ Day celebration held in Lagos on Friday.
Falore said the collaboration of the home and the school is very crucial to the upbringing of a child, adding that the father as the head of the home needs to key in into maintaining a cordial relationship between the home and the school.
She says, ‘’ The roles of fathers in the upbringing of a child cannot be overemphasised; but unfortunately experience has shown that many fathers believe it is the mothers’ role to look after the academic and moral wellbeing of their children both at school and at home.
“It is unfortunate that many of our fathers believe their responsibilities on the home front are limited to providing money for the upkeep of the family. Many of them are really lacking in creating quality time to discuss with their children, mentor them and call at their schools to check on them.
