Centre For Marine Pollution Monitoring And Seafood Safety CEMPOS provides an excellent training opportunity for scientists willing to explore the scientific basis of environmental pollution and practical approaches to its control.
Postgraduate programmes in Environmental Pollution Studies at CEMPOS are designed to provide applied skills as well as specialised problem-solving and critical thinking skills, for tackling environmental and sustainability issues. CEMPOS is managed by a team of active, world-class academic experts from multidisciplinary backgrounds.

- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Environmental Pollution Studies
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Pollution Studies
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Environmental Pollution Studies
Admission Requirements
The Ph.D. programme in Environmental Pollution Studies is open to candidates who possess an M.Sc. degree in Environmental Pollution Studies or closely related disciplines with a CGPA of not less than 3.50 on a 5-point scale
Prospective applicants for the M.Sc. programme shall possess a good first degree in Biochemistry, Animal and Environmental Biology, Microbiology, Plant Science & Biotechnology, Chemistry, Fisheries, Crop and Soil Science, Engineering or in any other relevant course from a reputable University with a minimum CGPA of 2.40. B.Sc. graduates with third class or HND graduates with upper credit PLUS a minimum of lower credit (3.50/5.00 CGPA) in PGD (Environmental Pollution Studies) from University of Port Harcourt or any other approved University can also apply.
Prospective applicants for the PGD programme should possess at least a B.Sc. (Third class) degree in Biochemistry, Animal and Environmental Biology, Microbiology, Plant Science & Biotechnology, Chemistry, Fisheries, Crop and Soil Science, Engineering or in any other relevant course from a reputable University, or HND (upper credit) in any of the Science fields from Nigerian Polytechnics or other approved comparable institution.
Program Duration
Full time Ph.D programme– 36 months (minimum) to 48 months (maximum)
Part-time Ph.D programme – 48 months (minimum) to 60 months (maximum)
Full time PGD & M.Sc. programmes: 12 calendar months
Part time PGD & M.Sc. programmes: 24 calendar months
