NUC Warns Universities To Stick To Approved Guidelines.

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has told the universities in the country to adhere strictly to the terms and conditions of the NUC operating license as spelt out in the approved guidelines for the universities in the country.

The executive secretary, NUC, Prof. Julius Okogie disclosed this at the weekend in Lokoja during the convocation ceremony of 95th graduating students of Salem University. The NUC executive secretary who was represented by Prof. Bisi Balogun, appealed to the universities in the country to desist from running un-approved programmes and courses, saying the organisation will not hesitate to sanction any institution found wanting in that direction.

Earlier, the institution’s vice chancellor, Prof Joseph Adeola Fuwape stated that the graduating students constituted proud fulfilment of the vision of Salem University, which he said is to produce graduates worthy in learning and character for outstanding leadership and global impact. Prof Fuwape disclosed that 95 students are graduating from the college of information and communication technology, college of natural and applied science as well as college of peace and social science, adding that three students graduated with first class division, 49 with second class upper division, 39 second class lower division, three with third class while one graduated with a pass.

He said the problem of funding and low level of students’ intake relative to its carrying capacity has been identified as the challenges confronting the institution, appealing to the state governor, Idris Wada, to extend a hand of fellowship to the institution. The Vice Chancellor implored the graduating students to uphold the virtue of the institution as they are going to the outside world, since they have been found worthy in character and learning.

Governor Idris Wada said his administration place much premium on education, assuring the institution of his support; even as he commended the institution for the achievement recorded so far despite challenges.
