UNIPORT Approves Removal Of 50% Tuition Surcharges, New Registration Procedures

The University Of Port Harcourt Senate at its  405th Meeting [Extraordinary] held on Wednesday, 8th April, 2015, received and considered a submission from the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. A. O. Efemini on the above subject matter.
After an exhaustive deliberation on the matter, Senate approved as follows:
I. Abolition of 50% surcharge on school charges;

Ii. Students will be required to register online and print out their course registration forms at the beginning of each session;

Iii. Students will also be required to submit 3 copies of the registration forms to their departments;

Iv. The department will in turn forward one copy of each form to the faculty officer and office of the director, academic affairs;

V. Each unit must maintain a file for each student and must be referred to when necessary to resolve issues of students’ academic status;

Vi. For the avoidance of doubt only students who comply with instruction (ii) and (iii) should be treated as students for the academic session concerned;

Vii. Students who fail to register at the beginning of each session shall roll over to the next session and such students will be required to apply for temporary withdrawal from study (application for temporary withdrawal from study is for one year in the first instance and thereafter renewable for another one year only,subject to compliance with the maximum length of time allowed for the programme of study as stipulated in the statement of academic policies of the university);

Viii. Any staff who aids any student to breach this procedure shall face appropriate sanctions;

Ix. Implementation should commence immediately (2014/2015 session).

The above decision of senate is hereby conveyed to you for necessary action, all students of the university should take note.
