Presidential Scholarship Scheme PRESSID 2014 Winners Announced
NUC Presidential Special Scholarship (PRESSID) Successful Candidates (names of winners) for 2014/2015 awards have been published. The National Universities Commission and the Implementation Committee, Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development (PRESSID) has published the list of Successful Candidates for 2014/2015 Scholarship award.
The NUC executive secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie announced the candidates that passed the examination for the second edition of the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development (PRESSID).
Over 2,000 candidates applied for selected programmes into engineering, technology, sciences, basic medical sciences, medicine and economics among other fields, where the country was experiencing shortfalls as 623 candidates sat for the screening examination on Dec. 10, 2013.

Instruction for PRESSID Successful Candidates
The successful candidates are invited for initial briefing at the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja on Monday, June 9th 2014 at 9.00am.
They should come along with their original certificates, NYSC discharge certificates, letters from two guarantors, their international passports, and letters of admission (if any).
Successful candidates are also encouraged to apply to any of the top 25 universities in the world approved for the scheme as indicated on the NUC’s website.
I have just gone through the list of successful candidates of the PRESSID, I must confess that I am seriously depressed from the performance of the other parts of the federation. It is very clear that soem parts of Nigeria are shamelessly lazy. This is against the backdrop of the House of Reps outcry about lopsidedness of the results. Instead those parts of the country to bury their heads in utter shame and thinkup a strategy for coming to speed with the reality, they are crying foul! This reminds me of my late teacher Mr. Chako, an Indian of blessed memory. He told a story of an Indian parliament that was dominated by religious sentiments where Hindus represented a vast majority and all other religions would always insist on the inclusion of at least one of their own in every committee or situations! There was this day, the story went on, when culprits of a massive fraud were being identified and a parliamentarian, a Christian was dosing from lack of sleep; when a colleague tapped him to suggest who the thieving culprits could be. As he was wont to saying, the parliamentarian just blabbed “one of them must be a Christian”. The opposite of such goofing is what our House of Reps has just done by announcing that “must of use are not intelligent enough; we are being marginalized” We need to lower the standards to satisfy our parliamentarians so that more of their types will be successful in the PRESSID venture and mediocre will continue to be produced!
We can not begrudge anyone. Intelligence is not in-born; it has to be cultivated! Please continue to expose those who are opposed to merit wherever they may be. We can not continue like this in Nigeria. I have the right to progress and better society created by intelligent people!
