Union Vows To Shut Down Fed Poly, Oko Over Rector
The Joint Action Committee on Trade Unions, JACTU, of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, yesterday, said the institution would remain shut, even after the ongoing nationwide strike by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, was over, unless a new rector was appointed from within the school.
The tenure of the incumbent, Professor Godwin Onu, expired on March 10, 2014.
This came as the Governing Council of the polytechnic denied sacking about 400 staff of the institution, saying, ”Council desires to mention further that the unfounded rumour about the laying off of 400 staff is false.” Source: Vanguard Newspaper
