2014 Microsoft Office Competition Winners Emerge

Winners of the just concluded 2014 Microsoft Office Competition for students have emerged, an annual exercise organized by ReadManna Ventures Limited since 2009. Read the full details as reported by LeadershipNG:

This year’s competition required students to demonstrate their proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint, versions 2007 and 2010.

The competition was open to all secondary school and university students between the ages of 13 and 22.

The objective of the national competition is to encourage schools to include basic computer skills in their curricula, which would provide the students with computing expertise they need during and after leaving school.

The chief executive officer of ReadManna, Edna Agusto, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP, said “most businesses use Microsoft Office to accomplish their daily tasks. A survey of the unemployed graduates reveals that our graduates are ill equipped to cope with the current basic computer skills required by businesses they aspire to work with. Therefore it is imperative that students be introduced to the importance of being proficient in the use of desktop productivity software at an early age in this digital dispensation.”

This year’s competition was held for a period of 7 months from November 1, 2013 to May 16, 2014. The 2014 National MOS competition on Word, Excel and PowerPoint (versions 2007 and 2010) ended with 208 entries from 15 secondary schools from Lagos, Ogun, Edo, FCT and Kwara states.

76 students were short-listed for the final live competition which took place in Abuja and Lagos on the 20th and 23rd of May 2014 respectively and the top 18 winners emerged at the end of the retake sessions.
